Software I'm building.

Projects I want to hear and use myself. Each starts at a different point in the signal path and asks a different question about production. Scroll down to see the ideas behind them.

My current projects

AOSS Meter

In development

A customizable all-in-one metering plugin: 12+ modules covering everything from levels and loudness to dynamic range, spectrogram and stereo image. All displays in one window, arranged to suit the way I produce, mix or master.

Several analysis plugins used to share the space on my second monitor. Their displays were useful; managing them was less so. Windows shifted around, scaled oddly or overlapped. Instead of simply looking at the meters, I kept having to rearrange them.

That's how AOSS Meter came about: 12+ working modules for different monitoring tasks, together in one plugin window. From levels and loudness through spectrum and spectrogram to waveform, stereo image and multiband correlation. I adapt which modules I see and how they're arranged to my workflow. More modules may follow.

The idea is to keep everything I want to watch while producing, mixing and mastering in one place. Less window management, a clearer overview.

I already use and test the development version in my own production work and actively develop it further. Multi-channel analysis via sidechain and matrix routing is in progress. I'm aiming for a first public version, at least as an open beta, before the end of 2026; there is no fixed date yet.

AOSS Meter will be donationware: free to use, with the option to support development through a voluntary donation. The name is still a working title.

ALXTape

In development

Tape as a connected machine: recording, tape and playback are designed to shape the sound of tracks, buses and masters together.

From recording to playback, ALXTape is designed to treat tape as a connected system.

Different formats, speeds and calibrations are intended to offer meaningful sonic choices for individual tracks, buses and masters.

A first prototype is planned for RTM Amsterdam 2026.

B27

In development

An old tube preamp I don't want to reduce to a vintage knob. B27 is my attempt to rebuild its signal path as a plugin using historical documentation, published measurements and circuit simulations.

B27 draws on a tube amplifier developed in the late 1950s that later helped shape the sound of well-known recordings from the 1960s.

I'm using documented circuit details, published measurements and simulations to build an independent preamp plugin. Where questions remain, I keep testing and comparing until I'd want to keep the sound on a recording of my own.

RoomDesigner

In development

Build the room yourself: its shape, materials, instruments and microphones shape the sound. RoomDesigner turns that scene into room IRs and a shared acoustic space for separately recorded tracks.

A room is more than its reverb. RoomDesigner is being designed to bring room layout, sound sources and microphones together in an acoustic scene, then generate impulse responses from it.

Alongside individual room sounds, a matrix for shared room response and mic bleed is planned to give separately recorded tracks a sense of occupying the same space.
